SOAP A116 SURVEY OF THE EPIDURAL TECHNIQUE AMONG OBSTETRIC ANESTHESIOLOGISTS IN THE USA Adsumelli RSN, Schabel JE, Glass PSA Department Of Anesthesiology, School of Medicine, SUNY Stony Brook, Stony Brook, NY The technique of loss of resistance to air LORA ; or saline with or without a bubble LORS ; is the most commonly used method to locate the epidural space. Recently, publications implicate the use of air in producing pneumocephalus pneumo ; following dural puncture DP ; and immediate headache, patchy blocks PB ; , venous air embolism and nerve compression especially when multiple attempts were made. Aims: 1 ; To survey the practice of technique used to locate the epidural space and the rationale for their choice. 2 ; To survey the impact of the information in medical journals in changing clinical practice. Methods: The study population included all American members of the Society of Obstetric Anesthesiologists and Perinatalogists SOAP ; . The questionnaire was piloted, coded and distributed at 2002 SOAP meeting and also mailed. Statistical significance p 0.05 ; was checked with chi square test. Results: 938 surveys were sent. 50% were returned. Analysis revealed the current primary technique as: LORA 56%, LORS 41% and other 3%. 69% learned LORA as the first technique and 30% of them practice LORS now p 0.0001 ; . During the last 7years, 9% changed from LORAS and 3% LORSA. Change was based on literature 29% LORAS, 14% LORSA ; and clinical experience 60% LORAS, 86%LORSA ; . Responses to the rationale for their practice are expressed in table1.
The Task Force estimates that the "most likely" use and emissions in 2010 at 40, 000 metric tonnes plus or minus 20, 000 metric tonnes, depending on the results of pending toxicity testing and price trends of nPB and the solvents it may replace. The estimate of 20, 000 metric tonnes is based on replacement of ozone-depleting solvents in CEIT and Article 5 1 ; countries and no replacement in any country of chlorinated solvents not controlled by the Montreal Protocol. The estimate of 60, 000 metric tonnes is based on the extrapolation of nPB use as a solvent and ingredient based on a 5, 000 metric tonne base year and a typical "S-Shaped" curve . The Task Force estimates the "upper bound" global emissions at 250, 000 metric tonnes plus or minus 25, 000 metric if nPB were to replace other solvents in applications where nPB is technically comparable in cleaning and ingredient performance. It is unlikely that this level of use and emissions will be experienced. If the Science Assessment Panel determines that upper bound emissions will cause significant ozone depletion, Parties may wish to further refine sales estimates based on more extensive market research and globally reported data on nPB solvent and ingredient use. TEAP and its TOCs will continue to improve methodology for predicting future markets. Parties may wish to request reporting of global nPB solvent and ingredient use
Waiver of Liability The waiver of liability provisions of Medicare law apply to protect beneficiaries and in some cases, providers, from having to pay under certain circumstances where Medicare denies payment. Waiver of liability protects beneficiaries from paying for physician services which are not specifically excluded from coverage, but which Medicare decides were not reasonable and necessary in a particular case. Waiver of liability also protects: Beneficiaries who receive custodial care, instead of skilled care, in nursing homes, until the date the beneficiary should have known the care would not be covered by Medicare; Beneficiaries placed in a nursing home bed that is not Medicare-certified, when proper written notice is not given; Beneficiaries who receive care in a hospital that is disapproved by the QIO or intermediary, if proper notice is not given; Beneficiaries who receive non-covered elective surgery costing greater than 0 if proper notice of non-coverage was not given; and Beneficiaries who receive certain other non-covered services in limited cases when written notice of noncoverage was not given.

We had collected nearly two million responses over the past three years, and needed an effective tool to be able to analyze the data contained in those responses. Having determined that direct mail was one of the most effective means of reaching our target markets, we needed a solution that would give us a better understanding of market characteristics and behavior to enable us to deliver the right messages to the right audiences. StayinFront Analytics from the Redi-Direct family of companies ; is helping us accomplish those objectives, " Miller said. Prior to the implementation of StayinFront Analytics, analysis and delivery of the required information was very time consuming. Extraction of the data and delivery of the summary information was being handled by an outside firm. In many instances, the reports took days to receive, and in many cases did not produce the information that was needed. Pharmaton required a solution that would perform the analysis in real-time and allow the marketing staff to deliver appropriately focused collateral materials on time. The overall goal was to become more effective and efficient in the direct marketing process. "We chose Redi-Direct because they were already managing our database, " said Miller. "After working with them, we knew that their family of companies offered a variety of highly-effective direct marketing, database management, software services and dss.

Gami in Professor Toyohide Watanabe's laboratory. This laboratory, which included the complementary topics of computer vision, document image processing, and machine understanding, would be a perfect home to foster their interests. The initial motivation for applying pattern recognition techniques to origami was to encourage more people to participate in the craft. The problem, as explained by Shimanuki, is that it is sometimes difficult for people especially children to understand and follow directions from the folding steps of most origami drill books. In particular, these steps cannot show all perspectives of the model. Therefore, this group proposed a system showing how a computer model of an origami piece can be created, then how the folding can be shown in 3D, computer animated space. The computer model contains full information on the 3-D shape and this model is modified throughout the folding process. In this way, any intermediate folds can be viewed from different perspectives for better understanding of the steps toward the final result. A second endeavor of this group was to start the origami not with existing folding instructions, but with a hand-drawn sketch of a target object, for instance an animal. The approach here was inspired in part by mathematicians' use of geometrical techniques, but also incorporates pattern recognition and image processing techniques. Steps in this process are as follows. The target object is first hand-sketched. This sketch is skeletonized.
Entitled to future medical treatment stemming from the side effects of the medications that these physicians prescribed in order to alleviate the pain of his compensable eye injury. The Administrative Law Judge stated that since the Claimant is not entitled to medical treatment for the alleged compensable consequences, he is not entitled to future medical treatment from these doctors for the compensable consequences. If the Commission finds that the Claimant did not prove by a preponderance of the evidence that he is suffering from these compensable consequences it follows, a fortiori, that he cannot have continuing medical treatment for these compensable consequences which would not be compensable. Accordingly, this point of appeal must also be denied and dismissed. c ; Did the Claimant suffer a psychological injury pursuant to Ark. Code Ann. 11-9-113? and echinacea.

A point of discussion. Postponing the onset of this therapy, in order to prolong the growth phase as well as to achieve a longer period of total GH exposure, has been suggested 3 ; . However, an excessive delay in pubertal development may have serious psychosocial consequences in these patients already stigmatized by short stature and dysmorphic features 4 ; . An alternative means to prolong the estrogen-free GH treatment interval may be the early onset of GH therapy 5 ; . In order to ascertain the advantages of early GH treatment in TS, we started a prospective study aimed at evaluating the prepubertal height gain in a cohort of 29 girls who were treated with the same pro-kilo GH dose 1.0 IU kg per week ; since they were less than 6 years of age and for at least 5 years before entering puberty.
