Country marketing managers from Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Netherlands, Nordic Region, Spain, UK and US met to develop the TOBI global mission, positioning and messaging and The information developed and presented was incorporated into the TOBI Global Life Cycle Plan that describes the management of the TOBI franchise over its life cycle. We have gathered today to celebrate the memory of Doctor Ral Prebisch, distinguished economist that worked in the United Nations for more than four decades. Don Ral was one of the most prestigious Latin Americans from the Post-World War II period and I sure that you will accompany me to honor his remarkable professional career, not only within his country, Argentina, but also at the hemispheric and international level. It is virtually impossible, and probably misleading, to try and separate the personal characteristics of Ral Prebisch, the man from the substantive characteristics of Ral Prebisch, one of the central pioneers of post-World War II development theories and policies. He was, first and foremost, a leader of people. The term "charisma" is much used and abused, but Prebisch had it in abundance. His personal charm and magnetism captured the attention of every audience he addressed and he would hold that audience-whether a few people or a roomful, whether students or professional bureaucrats-in the palm of his hand for as long as he cared to speak. Many times, in my years with him, I witnessed him facing a hostile individual or a crowd of disbelievers and skeptics and then -mirabile dictu- within minutes he had them listening intently to his arguments and as often as not eventually lending him full or grudging support. What was fascinating to me was that, when asked to speak for an hour, he would end his discourse within minutes of that goal. If asked to speak for 15 minutes, he would end up equally close to his timing target. He was an orator of unusual power, not only in his native Spanish but in English and French as well, invariably speaking without notes and without hesitation. As I stand before you this morning, how I wish I possessed those capabilities! Among 19 children with asthma, 917 years of age, we examined the relationship of temporal changes in percent predicted forced expiratory volume in 1 sec FEV1 ; to personal continuous exposure and to 24-hr average gravimetric mass measured at home and central sites. Subjects were followed for 2 weeks during either the fall of 1999 or the spring of 2000, in a southern California region affected by transported air pollution. FEV1 was measured by subjects in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Exposure measurements included continuous using a passive nephelometer carried by subjects; indoor, outdoor home, and central-site 24-hr gravimetric PM2.5 of aerodynamic diameter 2.5 m ; and PM10; and central-site hourly PM10, nitrogen dioxide, and ozone. Data were analyzed with linear mixed models controlling for within-subject autocorrelation, FEV1 maneuver time, and exposure period. We found inverse associations of FEV1 with increasing exposure during the 24 hr before the FEV1 maneuver and with increasing multiday averages. Deficits in percent predicted FEV1 95% confidence interval ; for given interquartile ranges measured during the preceding 24-hr were as follows: 128 g m3 1-hr maximum personal PM, 6.0% 10.5 to 1.4 30 g m3 24-hr average personal PM, 5.9% 10.8 to 1.0 6.7 g m3 indoor home PM2.5, 1.6% 2.8 to 0.4 16 g m3 indoor home PM10, 2.1% 3.7 to 0.4 7.1 g m3 outdoor home 2.5 , 1.1% 2.4 to 0.1 and 7.5 g m 3 central-site 2.5 , 0.7% 1.9 to 0.4 ; .
