Below is a list of possible cancer treatments. It is not meant to be exhaustive, but will give you an idea of some of the treatments available. SURGERY is sometimes performed to remove metastatic melanoma. CHEMOTHERAPY uses drugs to kill cancer cells and is sometimes used for some patients with stage IV melanoma, especially to relieve symptoms or shrink tumors. Warrant is relativised to an epistemic community, the question is raised as to the nature of the contrast between these two views of transmission. There need be no disagreement: we acquire knowledge through becoming members of epistemic communities. The epistemic explanation of our acquisition of knowledge is that our appropriate acceptance of testimony relates us to a `third world' ; body of warrant. It is this body of warrant which explains why the proposition we believe is knowledge, it is not the community's agreement that does so. This is so because it must be allowed that it is possible for a community to agree that a proposition is warranted when it is not so; it must be allowed that objectively a community can be in error in its judgement of warrant. The difference between communitarianism and the position outlined in previous section thereby turns on the issue of epistemological realism. The communitarian, as an epistemological anti-realist, contends that claims about warrant are fundamentally no more than claims about our communal ; beliefs about warrant. However, there is a fundamental distinction between social and objective warrant. Carefully assess patient adherence, because inadequate adherence to ARVs is a common reason for regimen failure. In some cases, adherence support, treatment of adverse drug effects, substitution for poorly tolerated ARVs, or other measures to enhance adherence may result in virologic suppression. In the extension study. Participating patients received a new set of medication and were unaware of the treatment assignment; those who had received active treatment in the core study continued with the same dose, and those who had received placebo were randomly assigned to receive 1.25 or 5.0 mg of fingolimod. Electrocardiograms were obtained at baseline, on days 1 and 7, and at months 1, 3, 6, and 12, and 24-hour Holter electrocardiographic monitoring was performed at selected sites at baseline, day 1, and month 3. Pulmonary-function tests, which included the forced expiratory volume in 1 second FEV1 ; , forced vital capacity FVC ; , and carbon monoxide diffusion capacity, were performed at screening and months 6 and 12. These tests were introduced by means of a protocol amendment and thus were performed in a subgroup of patients. Neurologic evaluations were performed at baseline and every 3 months thereafter with the use of the EDSS and the Multiple Sclerosis Functional Composite MSFC, data not shown ; . Relapses were confirmed by the treating physician on the basis of an examination by the EDSS rater who was not otherwise involved in patient care. When warranted, relapses were managed by the treating physician according to a standardized scheme, with up to 1000 mg of methylprednisolone per day given intravenously for 3 to 5 days.
